Tattoo preselection for competitions is something new for the Tattoo Konwent series. Can you explain exactly what you will be doing and how it works?

At the upcoming Poznań Tattoo Convention, which will take place on March 23-24, 2024, numerous changes in the competition await us, and the entire procedure has been redesigned from scratch. The jury will decide on the selection of the best works using tokens, but that's not all - tattoo preselection will also be introduced. This significant role will be fulfilled by Michael Murolo, an experienced talent selector who collaborates with the largest conventions in Europe.

Tattoo preselection is a novelty within the Tattoo Convention series. Describe precisely what you will be doing and what it entails?

I am very excited about the opportunity to serve as the tattoo preselector at the upcoming Poznań Tattoo Convention. My main task will be to ensure the correct categorization of each tattoo into the appropriate competition category. It often happens that a tattoo is submitted for a competition, but no one verifies whether the submission complies with the regulations. Those accepting submissions are only responsible for registering the candidate, which is based on trust. There have been cases where the jury awarded a tattoo that should not have been judged in that category but in another. My task will be to ensure that such situations do not occur. Therefore, if any of the artists have doubts, I will endeavor to advise them in real-time on which competition category they should submit their tattoo.

What are the main goals of tattoo preselection?

Preselection is crucial because it enables the shortening of the time for judging works during the competition. By carefully assigning each tattoo to the appropriate competition category, the jury can focus on evaluating works that actually meet the requirements of the specific competition, ensuring participants an equal chance of recognition for their effort and creativity. This way, the competition's final becomes fairer and more transparent, which enhances the event's prestige.

Will you be scouting tattooing talents?

Yes, I definitely hope to discover new, promising talents during the Poznań Tattoo Convention 2024. If I see a piece of work that particularly interests me and surprises me with its creativity and execution technique, I will certainly be open to the possibility of collaborating with the artist. I would like to assist in developing the potential of new talents and share my experiences with young artists.

What are your general impressions of the Polish tattoo industry?

The Polish tattoo scene is incredibly diverse and dynamic. I have noticed that Polish artists often stand out with a high level of creativity and technical skills. I am impressed by the approach to tattoo art in Poland. Polish artists often experiment with various styles and techniques, leading to the creation of unique and exceptional tattoo works. Additionally, I have seen many impressive projects that stand out not only for their aesthetics but also for their emotional depth and artistic message. Polish tattoos often tell stories and express the individuality of artists and their clients.

What are your expectations for the Poznań Tattoo Convention 2024?

My expectations for the Poznań Tattoo Convention 2024 are very high. I believe that this convention provides an excellent opportunity to meet talented artists, share experiences, and learn about new trends in the world of tattooing. I am convinced that the introduced competition changes, including tattoo preselection, will make the convention even more inspiring and effective for all participants. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Marcin Pacześny for his trust and invitation to co-create the Poznań Tattoo Convention. I am immensely grateful to him for what he does for our community and for entrusting me with such a responsible role in the Poznań competitions.
